It’s been a long time but the new Cea Serin album is being mastered and on its way. Check out the details after the jump.
I’ve been toying around with ideas for the album for quite some time. I was never quite sure what to call it. The album is around 47 minutes long and has 5 tracks. Of course, each song is quite long with an epic 20 minute long piece at the very end.
For the time being I’ve settled on the album title “Intermission 1: The Vibrant Sound of Bliss and Decay“
It’s a bit long-winded I know but seeing as how the official title for our debut album was
“embracing the absence,
where memories combine,
that the tongue will incite,
for the days left behind”
I figured the new album title is rather short.
Our debut CD is simply known as “…where memories combine…” for short but the entire album title is a combination of other lines from some of the songs contained within.
The title “Intermission 1” says that there may be an “Intermission 2” one day. I would like for these albums to be a bit of a departure from what we’re known for. And I think we established a certain sound on the first album.
The song list for the new album will be
1) Holy Mother
2) The Illumination Mask
3) Ice
4) The Victim Cult
5) What Falls Away
The first two songs are re-recordings of two older songs that have only appeared in demo form. For years I’ve gotten emails from people wanting our past demos and our past mp3.com album, “Chiaroscuro,” which is now unavailable.
The re-recordings of these songs, as well as all the songs on the album, feature Rory Faciane on drums and not a drum machine that was previously used on the older versions. It also gives us the opportunity to record the songs they way they should’ve been done using better technology and updated keyboard sounds.
The song “Ice” is actually a cover song written by Sarah McLachlan. I’ve always wanted to do this song in Cea Serin. However, I wanted to do it our way. The song is a bit longer than the original and the instrumentation has been switched all around. The guitar parts are now played on piano, the bass is different, the guitar is different, the point of view from the vocals is all different as well.
The last two songs are lengthy and contain all the elements that people know and love about Cea Serin. It’s heavy, the vocals are mixed, there are elements of new age in the keys, the time signatures switch quite a bit. There’s a lot going on that’s for sure.
I wanted this album to bridge the gap between our past and our future. That’s why there’s two songs from the past that very few people have heard, a song that has inspired me over the years, and songs from our current state. They all lead into the new LP which we’ll begin working on soon.
All the material for the new album AFTER this album has been written and demo’d. It’s ready to go. Hopefully it won’t take as long to put out as this one did. But in the mean time, stay tuned for all the updates on when it will come out, album art, and all that jazz.
